FAQ about the project
Q: How far is the Gate of Hell from the town?
A: The Gate of Hell is a 15 minute drive from the center of Rotorua by I-Site. The GPS navigation address of Hell's Gate is 351 SH30, Tikitere Rotorua. If you don't have a self driving car, you can take our shuttle bus to and from Rotorua three times a day.
Q: Does Hell's Gate have WIFI?
A: Sorry, there isn't.
Q: What is the difference between Hellgate and other geothermal parks or attractions in New Zealand?
A: The unique feature of Hell's Gate is that it is the only acidic sulfate geothermal system in New Zealand. That's why it doesn't have the same beautiful color as those alkaline chloride geothermal systems. It is the most dynamic geothermal park, with water temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Celsius, and boasts the largest hot water waterfall and largest mud volcano in the southern hemisphere. The Gate of Hell has been owned by local Maori people for the past 800 years and has also been influenced by European immigrants and tourists in the past 180 years. It is the only geothermal attraction with an English name.
Q: Can I rent swimsuits, shorts, or towels?
A: The front desk can rent swimsuits, shorts, and towels for NT $5 each, and commercial cleaning will be carried out after each use. For tourists who arrive and leave on the same day, renting these items is a good idea, as there is no need to put wet items in the car.
Q: What is the age of children?
A: If you want to purchase children's tickets, you must be under 15 years old. Family tickets are calculated based on two adults and two children under the age of 15. Children under the age of 5 are free of charge. Mud baths and hot springs are also suitable for babies under 2 years old, but suitable bathing clothes should be worn (sulfur hot springs and sulfur mud baths are suitable for children over 2 years old).
Q: Do we still need to reposition if we have already booked and paid online?
A: Yes, especially if you need to confirm the time and location of the shuttle bus, and if you need to participate in spa treatments such as massage and frosting, you need to confirm again. If you have booked a hot spring spa and need to make changes, you must notify us at least 24 hours before the original scheduled time. Changes made within 24 hours depend on availability, and if there are no available seats, a 50% cancellation fee will be charged. If the scheduled time does not appear and we are not notified in advance, 100% of the reserved hot spring spa fee will be charged.
Q: What is the cancellation of regulations like?
A: Yes, our hot spring spa has a cancellation policy. Once a hot spring spa reservation is made, any cancellation must be notified to us at least 24 hours prior to the original scheduled time, without any penalty. If the cancellation is made within 24 hours, a 50% cancellation fee will be charged. If the scheduled time does not appear and we are not notified in advance, 100% of the reserved hot spring spa fee will be charged.
Q: What do we need to carry?
A: If you are here to experience hot springs or mud baths, you can bring your own bathing clothes and towels or rent them at the front desk. We also have swimsuits for sale. If you are visiting a geothermal park, we suggest wearing comfortable shoes, wearing sunglasses in the summer, and drinking water. If it rains, bring a suitable raincoat or you can also purchase a disposable raincoat at the front desk for NT $3.5. Don't let the rain hinder your journey, the geothermal park on rainy days will showcase its most exciting appearance (if it's not raining too hard).
Q: Is there any way to ensure the safety of my belongings?
A: If you are coming to Hell's Gate to experience mud baths or hot springs, we will send you a plastic box with a lid that can store clothes and personal items. This box is waterproof and you can carry it with you during activities, ensuring that you can keep an eye on it throughout the entire process. If you experience New Zealand hot springs, there will be a lockable cabinet where you will carry a short rope tied to the key throughout the journey.
